My Fitness Routine

Posted in Physical-Therapy by admin on the May 2nd, 2008

I get asked all the time what I do to keep myself in shape - so here goes…

Monday, Wednesday, Friday

  • 30mins upper body weights
  • 30 minutes lower body
  • 30 minutes cardio

Tuesday, Thursday

  • 60-90 minutes cardio - treadmill walk 4mph, 15% incline 60mins followed by bike or elliptical 30minutes.

This may seem like a lot but I am not one of those lucky people who can eat what they like and still stay thin - all I need to do to gain weight is to walk past a donut!!! Sometimes I don’t even need to be in the same room and just thinking about chocolate will make me gain a couple of pounds!!!
Anyone who wants more specific info about my weights program please just let me know…..

Physical therapy for low back pain

Posted in Physical-Therapy by admin on the May 2nd, 2008

Hi,

Welcome to my blog - this is the very first post I’ve ever made - the first of many. I spent much of my day today treating people with back pain. Did you know that 80% of us will suffer from back pain at some time in our lives and once we’ve had it once, the chances of recurrence are 75%…wow - really no good news there. I’ve seen it time and time again - there IS something you can do about it - if you strengthen up the core stability muscles in your spine, the chances of the pain returning drops to about 20% - love those odds!!! So how do you strengthen up those muscles??? Well, there are a load of exercise programs out there that you can follow. My advice is to find an exercise regime that best suits you and to stick with it. It’s no good swimming every day for 2 weeks because someone told you that you should, if you hate swimming and can’t wait to stop. Alison’s tip of the day is to find an exercise routine that you enjoy and stick with it for the long haul.
